Default Marijuana and having to live "next" to it

So, here's my situation. I live in Arvada, (64th and Ward) and in a "town house" community. Most of the tenants here own their own place and be as it may, maintain very much upstanding community and is very nice for that. BUT, I have a neighbor/neighbors that CONSTANTLY smokes weed. Seems like right next door to me and next to them as well. I've witnessed "smoke" pouring out of their sliding door as I'm grilling, so it's first hand experience. So, since it's the spring/summer I'm having to "smell" that shit more and more on a daily basis. On top of that I have 3 kids, ages 4, 2 and 6 months, that I don't want even near that junk let alone having to smell the dip shit next to us. I've called Arvada dispatch and the person on the other end basically said deal with it. Officers are too busy to chase down "low rent" pot incidences and basically not to call in. The person even went as far as sayingv"now you have every right to call in every incident you so choose, but just don't expect an officer there quickly." THE LAST TIME I CHECKED POT WAS ILLEGAL! When did "we" as citizens have to deal with this type of action just because "It wasn't worth an officers time" I do understand that there maybe, almost all the time, the responding officer feels like their time is better spent somewhere else?? BUT isn't it their duty to uphold the "law" no matter how small or large?? Given though, the justice side of situations?? (You all know what I mean when I say "Justice" it's not what's in question in this blog) But when did law abiding citizens have to deal with a situation just because it was either too small or not worth an officers time??

I'm to the point where I'm ready to kick down their door and question them myself what the FU5K their doing!!! I'm so sick and tired of having to put of with this type of action because it's "tolerated" why should I???

Please, I'm looking for your thoughts and opinion on this matter (especially from any of our law enforcement officers that thread this site)

    Thanks,
    John

I know the general thought is that pot smokers are immature assholes but that's not always the case. I'd try talking to them. Let them know that you don't want your kids exposed to it as well as yourself.

Personally, I don't have a problem with others smoking but having a severe allergy to marijuana (of all things?), I have had to have this conversation on a couple of occasions with good results.

    Check again.

Colorado legalized "medical" marijuana and the threshold for getting a prescription for it is incredibly low (a simple unfounded claim of "chronic pain" will do it...for those of you not familiar with drug culture slang there's actually an unintended pun there).

The chances that your neighbor is actually legally smoking weed is pretty doggone high (dammit, another pun...sorry). So there's probably nothing you can do about it.

I'm not 100% positive on this but looking at my neighbor now, he's not holding a "mary-juana" card. I sometimes see his "dealer" making the rounds with their "oh how's your mom" "she's good" (hand to hand) then out

Generally I don't care if someone smokes it, it's their life. I just don't want to be in the "middle" of it so to say....

Well, they probably can't do anything if the PD did show up. $20 and a few minutes will get you a medical MJ card just about anywhere in town. PD shows up, guy says yeah, I got a card. PD says ok, moves on.

Talk to the home owners assoc. they might be able to help, but probably not much they can do either. Similar if the guy next door just wants to smoke a cigar all day, it's his town house and back area to do as he wishes within the limits of the town house assoc. rules.

Get some of the fake skunk scent at the sporting goods store, keep putting it out in the back area and see if they change their mind about being out there smoking their weed.

wish you luck. Good fences make good neighbors, except when it comes to smoke or barking dogs.

It's just come to a point where I feel so helpless in trying to do anything, but if I take it a "step further" I'm in the wrong.

I vote for going over there when you are in a calm and rational mood and trying to reason with them. I'm definitely on your side on this issue and if I was in your shoes I would be pissed. I really don't want to see, hear, or smell anything from my neighbors. Your story reminds me why I will never live in an apartment or townhome again. Hell, when I decide to move out of my current house in "town" I will probably but a place in the country with plenty of land to put a little distance between me and the neighbors.

I second the contacting the association idea. It very well may be a violation of their rent agreement, especially if it is bothering others. That being said, just talking to them might do a world of good.

I would also say to just go have a man to man with them. However, if that doesn't work you could always do something on your porch they won't like. I know I'm generalizing here but I would be willing to bet they wouldn't be too happy if you were out there dressing some game.
