I like his reasoning and stance on firearms and shooting.

My question is do the majority of responsible shooters want an area in NF (that the article does an excellent job of stating how much we contribute) that is supervised range with safeties, maintained targets, and possibly a small fee, or an unsupervised area where you can go for free to shoot targets but the Forest Service enforces cleanliness and safety?
Personally I love going to places like Squaw Pass (mainly because it's close and a big enough area for 25-45m shooting) so I don't have to pay range fees, have bullet restrictions, and can pretty much set up any kind of target I want (no I don't blow away appliances and other trash- and if I do I clean every bit of it up). I would love a place to shoot that is well maintained and has some way of enforcing cleanliness... squaw pass doesn't have that, it's always a mess and I can grow tired of being a janitor all the time I go up there and have to clean up after others, but do it because it's the right thing to do.

There was some talk a while back about the city opening a public range south of the Cheyenne Mountain area ... but I have no idea whether this is ever going to happen (hard to find any references to it online so maybe I just dreamt it).
Ah HA ... it wasn't a dream ... here's an article (and its the county, not the city that might open it).
