Dragon Skin Price?

Anyone seen one of these go up for sale recently? I'm a little at a loss on the true market value. (Have a friend trying to sell his and is asking for pricing help).

I don't believe Pinnacle sells to anyone other than LE/Mil... I've never seen any for sale and the price I would expect for never impacted Dragon Skin would be in the multi-1000 range. I've seen some advertise it for $3,000 new and that's the lowest I've ever seen it sell for, but doubt it was the real deal. As for availability, it's nearly impossible to find.

Direct from their website they make you fill out an ID verification because it's not for sale to the general public... LE/Military/DOD only.

Yeah I was thinking $3-5k range, but they pop up so infrequently it's hard to tell. Most of the numbers I've heard are second-hand info from guys overseas.

The military isn't using these. They were tested and failed testing on the second go-around. Some got into the DoD system initially, but they pulled them. My organization was one of the agencies that got an initial issue of them. Then the second testing at Aberdeen revealed serious concerns of failure from angular impacts. The recalled all of them and my agency went to Paracleate systems.

they are innovatively unique and I hope they get the systems working as they have great potential. As they stand now, I could not recommend purchasing and seriously using one.

Oh I know all about this, but they won't sell to non-LE/Mil personnel. They make you verify before going ahead with the purchase. The issue is that a lot of military units forbid their personnel from using non-approved body armor. This was a big controversy over "will my son/daughter get their SGLI payout if killed wearing non-approved armor?" The answer was yes, it doesn't matter, but the unit may NJP a service member for using non-issue armor.

friday, wasnt there issues with the dragon skin having some material failure in prolonged high temp environments(iraq). I thought thats what i heard from a contractor.

Paraclete makes a good vest. The army banned them and then a few months later tested them and said they failed testing. The whole thing is a bit odd.

Can't remember exactly, but I think the thermal test (6 hours at 160 and 6 hours at -60) is where the vests failed. I think the ceramic delaminated from the backing causing gaps.

Some guys love them, some don't trust them. If I were transporting it to a desert or having it sit on tarmac in a cargo bay for a day, I'd probably go with paraclete. If it was going to more temperate area and wanted wrap-around IIIA, I'd go dragon skin.

Of course ideally I'm not needing it at all....

An initial Dragon Skin testing was done in 02 at Ft. Benning. The Dragon Skin allowed great flexability & movement (running the "Darby Queen" in it still sucked), however when wet it's weight more than doubled due to the amout of material that retained water. Another failure was due to prolonged exposure to heat. Even in GA in only 100+ deg weather, we were getting ""scales" ungluing and creating a gap in the armor. The mfg has, I believe, corrected this issue yet has not lost the stigma from that failure. I haven't seen or tested any of the newer Dragon Skin since then, and most likely will not. I'll keep my Paraclete, I know it works as advertised.

As far as a resale price, he should take whatever someone will offer for it and be done with it. If he "acquired" it, any amout is a profit; if he paid for it, then there is a good baseline.

FYI he definately paid for it out of his own pocket as opposed to liberated from uncle sam.
