    Rare World War II Medal Taken in Burglary
    Sgt. Darrin Abbink


    Tuskegee Airmen Medal

    On May 31, 2011, the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to a reported burglary in progress call at 331 N. Spruce Street. Upon arrival, officers found that the front door to the residence had been forced open, and that several items, including coins in old ammo cans and a laptop computer were stolen during the burglary. An investigation was initiated at that time which determined that one or more suspects forced entry to the home between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM while the resident was away.

    The victim in this case is 87 year old Franklin Macon. Mr. Macon is a World War II veteran, and former member of the famed Tuskegee Airmen. During the burglary, Mr. Macon's Congressional Tuskegee Airmen Medal, awarded to members of this historic unit, was stolen. This medal holds great sentimental value to Mr. Macon, and the Colorado Springs Police Department would like to see this medal returned to Mr. Macon. The medal is extremely rare, is made of bronze, and depicts the airmen on the front, and three aircraft on the back. A photograph of a similar medal is attached to this release.

    Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the Colorado Springs Police Department at 444-7000, or, if they want to remain anonymous, people may contact Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP (634-7867). Anonymous tips may also be submitted to the CSPD via text messages at 847411 (TIP411) by including ?CSPD? along with the tip in the text message.

    In addition, Mr. Macon is willing to do interviews about this case with the media. Contact Sgt. Darrin Abbink at 444-7844 for information.

    I was thinking the same thing, but a piece of shit of that caliber would more than likely toss it has it has no monetary value of any significance.
