Well I'm a ViewSonic fan.. I've deployed thousands of their monitors, had two of their first gen. flats back in the late 90's and both are still going strong. Samsung... well if you're all about supporting Korea then cool. It's a better brand than Benq ..

All said and told I trust ViewSonic, and as with most anything, but especially in computers, you get what you pay for.

We have some beautiful viewsonics at work and I've always liked them (heck, I bought one for the now-ex-wife).

My recommendation was based soley on the numbers. The viewsonc has a slightly lower brightness and contrast, and for the same price the Samsung on newegg is just a smidge better (on paper, at least).

As for supporting Korea.... Most electronics come from Korea, Taiwan, Japan, or China anyway, and I'd rather support Korea or Taiwan than China.

Besides, there's only 4 LCD panel manufacturers out there, LG, Quanta, Sony, and I forget the other one. It's really just who's casing and assembly you're buying when you pick.

For the record, my desk is currently straining under the weight of a 6 year old Iiyama Vision Master 451 19" CRT and a NEC MultiSync E700 17" CRT. Both Japanese.

I do computer gaming. I found an excellent LCD which has a very fast refresh rate so there is no "ghosting" even in the most demanding of games I have played with it. It is 19" and under $200.

I have had very good luck with other Acer monitors.

I wouldn't skimp on a DVI cable. The types of low voltage (or even very low voltage) signalling that goes on at crazyhighspeed means that it's very susceptible to noise, of which there's plenty behind your computer.

I'm guessing (based on newegg prices) that a decent DVI cable shouldn't be much more than about $20-25 locally. Definitely avoid anything under $12, heh.

As long as you're using a digital signal, the noise level would have to be extremely high to actually break down the digital signalling. I wouldn't worry about the DVI cable. Noise is a greater concern with an analog VGA signal.

I've got an extra DVI cable if you want it, it's just a matter of getting it to you.

I just ran by Sam's Club tonight and they had a nice 6ft. DVI cable for $22.

So, having answered the laptop wireless question, I'm in a techy mood.

Which monitor did you go with?
