    Default FNG question....

Okay new to the forum, don't own an AR yet, really don't know dick about them, but I don't mind, I can learn about them later (as in the mechanics).

Don't want to spend too much money on something that I have never even touched, but they intrigue me. I did the same with 1911's and Glocks....never shot them, bought them, tore them completely down, and I love the 1911, I just like Glock (we'll see just dropped a fulcrum trigger kit in there with new springs tonight, I'll test it out on Thursday).

What do you guys think about this gun for the price? So for those asking this is just a fun dink around kinda gun, I'm not a leo or in the military, I just like to shoot shit you know what I'm saying?

    Thanks

You can build a much nicer one for $600 (that's just basic) with some patience of course.
The hardest one to find for a cheap price (IMHO) is the upper with a BCG (Bolt carrier Group) and Charging handle.. I got my complete Rock River Arms CAR 16" barrel upper with BCG from GunBroker for $420 something with shipping, and I'm pretty sure you can find a complete lower for as low as $130... but I would try to build the lower to your specs... Here's a a pic of mine.

I spent more on the add on's:
Tango Down VFG and pistol Grip $50 off this wonderful forum
Matech Buis (rear site) ebay $40
Mapul Moe Carbine handguard $30 off Ebay
    Magpul MS2 $28 Ebay
    Bushnell Trophy $50 craigslist
Magpul CTR butt stock $70 off this wonderful forum
Magpul bad lever $20 or something.. forgot where I got that one.
5 Magpul PMAGs (M version) $70 something off Bravo Company site.
Magpul advanced trigger guard $10 or something off this wonderful forum
Now from a $600 basic rifle I got's a $900 plus dollar AR... and it isn't stopping there...
    Hope this helps...

I think for that price it's not a bad gun. It's very simple. The following comments are made assuming that picture is accurate. One thing to be aware of is that you're going to be spending money on some sort of sight. You'll either need an optic or a pair of iron sights and you can expect to spend a $100 easily on a set of those. The other potential downside is that there is no forward assist. It's arguable that you won't need it, especially on a range gun but it's something to consider. The biggest downside is that it's one of the parts that is difficult to just swap out on a whim.

The 1/9 twist will be good for you. It plays nice with 55gr ammo which is good for cheaper plinking. The cool thing about the AR platform is that it's really easy to piece things together depending on what you want to change and as the money comes in to really customize it. As long as you put in a little care the rifle should treat you well.

That's my two cents on the thread.

This is some solid advice ^

Sure you can build one, but you can also use that one as a nice platform to customize.

oh no, nothing addicting at all about the AR-15

just a minimal selection of calibers, parts, grips, stocks, uppers, lowers, sights, optics, lights

I will agree on the F/A issue
I went from a carry handle style upper to a flat top. Changing out upper receivers isn't something you just do on a Tuesday after work.

All I can tell you this
DPMS makes a good product, I own one (It's still Kinda DPMS)

They also have the DPMS Oracle in stock. http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/p...ducts_id/70770

It's the same as the Sportical but adds the forward assist for $21 more.
