Default Camping / Shooting Spot Suggestion?

I've been all around the national parks camping and shooting and I'm ready for a new place, figure the folks here might have some good suggestions. I'm heading out somewhere tomorrow to camp out and plink around a bit.

I prefer some altitude, get away from this heat. Last year I spent a lot of time camping west of Idaho Springs in the Fall River area and now I'm itching to find another good and high spot. Somewhat secluded is nice, maybe a place where there's not a crowd of shooters/hikers/campers.

I'm good for most terrain, but prefer not to be doing serious wheeling to get to it, but a little wheeling is fine (Jeep full of ammo and weapons = not a fun wheeling time).

So what says you all? Any good spots say 1-2 hours around Denver, over 8,500 to 12,000 feet? Any specifics would be appreciated so I don't have to break out my land maps and compass to find it .

A friend took me up to Guanella Pass last fall. I believe we took to 285 to Grant and went up that way. It was kind of crowded since it was just before school started but we found a decent camping spot and shooting area. Good Luck

Thanks Stag, I was starting to think nobody loved me . Actually after nobody said anything I started digging through the forum for a couple of hours and came up with Guanella as well.

If you go to Guanella let me know how it goes. I need to get out of here and vent

I have been up guanella lots of times, but seems to all be private property around there, not sure where in the world you could shoot around there. going up and down is lengthy as well as they have been building new roads, havent been this year yet but would be very interested to find out where folks could shoot there.

So has anyone been up there since this post. Me and a couple buddies are looking to camping/shooting this coming weekend. And I'm wondering how far up the road from grant until you get to a good spot for both.
