Default How good is the wasr10

I have a centry Arms wasr10 with all tapco furniture, and an ar15 style muzzle break. I have been trying to sight it in with a red dot scope out at the grass lands. It dug a nice trench (kind of cool to see it was like 30 feet long) so I know it groups well, just wanted to know how good they are and what is the best way to sight it in. Thanks Atrain1

if you feel comfortable with it;s overall performance and have no issues it's a keeper. I have had a few and they will do what a higher end AK will do, only not as pretty. Myself, i don't care if it's a home built or from one of the high end builders i would not want to be on the receiving end.

As I was told when I asked the the question of sighting in an AK on this sight:
" Hold it over your head, shout Allah Akbar at the top of your lungs and squeeze the trigger as fast as you can.! "
Actually, even the WASR 10s can be fairly accurate given the short sight radius and poor visibiliy of the sights.
You may need to soak the front sight with a penetrating oil and take a brass punch & hammer and give it a firm tap for the windage adjustment before an adjustment tool will move it for windage.

I have had my WASR/10 for a few months now, put 1000s of rounds through it and have yet to have a single issue with it. AK family weapons are very reliable because they follow Klashnikov's basic rule of simplicity and reliability go hand in hand. I've heard of people shooting an AK, putting it away for a long while, pulling it out again and having to force the bolt open from rust/corrosion, loading it up and it shooting just fine. I would never try this, but it just goes to show how reliable the weapon can be. I've heard the Romanian WASR/10's are hit or miss but if you get a good one it'll last a while.

call bear arms in windsor or one of the other shops in noco to see if they have one in stock. if you are handy one could be made from a cheap c-clamp. I will look around to see if i have any more in my pile of crap.

Wasr's are decent guns, generally they function exactly as they are intended to, they are no different than guns built from original barrel romy kits (functionally that is) in that most shoot decently and sometimes you'll get lucky and get a real shooter. The main issues with wasr's have been their fit and finish (rough wood, sloppy paint, canted barrel parts etc). if a wasr does have functional issues it is usually due to a canted gas block binding the piston (sounds like yours doesn't have that problem) the other "issues" with wasrs are purely aesthetic, no mag well dimples and usually they are either newly or restamped with "non-military type" numbers or dates on the trunnion and usually lack a arsenal mark (though modern era romy military akm's no longer have the arsenal mark either) the second part is why ak "purists" or "collectors" look down their noses at wasr's. I think wasr's generally are pretty good rifles that that usually at most need barrel parts straightened and a nice refinish. Funtionally, I'd trust a wasr (with straight barrel parts) no less than one of my home builds, a factory saiga or even an arsenal (now days aresenals are basicly just fancy saigas) I would also trust a wasr over a century built ak personally
