Swap upper receivers

Is it possible to swap upper receivers? I want to go from an a3 upper receiver with no dust cover or forward assist to a m4 upper receiver with a dust cover and forward assist? How difficult would this be? How much it a gun smith did it?

That is a very easy job. less then 15 min of work there. Would only cost probable 50 or so

Swapped one of my A3 uppers in favor of an A2 yesterday. No big deal if you have the tools.

Simple task as mentioned but you do need the correct tools and there are a few things to pay attention to.

Don't get in a big hurry either. I stripped my upper down to paint it the other day then got the barrel back on, got the gas tube pinned back in place, and then realized I forgot to install the ejection port cover.

I had to pull the gas tube and barrel back off to put the cover on.

Oops.
