Default Citizen USA: A 50-State Road Trip

I just watched this program on HBO. It's a documentary put together by a naturalized US citizen. He takes his camera on the road to all 50 states and interviews newly naturalized citizens...the folks that did it the right way.

They were from all over the world. Most everyone said they did it for the freedom that exists in the US in various forms. Other reasons were security, opportunity, firearm laws...lots of things.

Every person interviewed pointed out the positives without bitching about the negatives and many people said the one thing they didn't like about their new country was how much Americans complained about everything.

It struck me that most of these naturalized citizens were probably more proud of their country than a lot of people born here.

I can't imagine giving up my US citizenship to live in another country. I've lived or traveled all over the world and no other country comes close to what we have here...things we mostly take for granted.

My hat's off to these new citizens. It really made me proud to see how proud they were of the US.

I'm gonna have to check that out... sounds pretty neat. I've met a couple from Germany before who are here legally, did it the right way, and said although very different from their home, they love America and the way we do things here. They also had a chilling reminder not to take things for granted (like basic freedom) because they've seen Islam increase so much in Europe that it's starting to influence their way of life over there.
