Angled Foregrip or vertical foregrip?

That is the question.

I see a lot of preassembled lowers include a vertical but I've seen several owners with angled foregrips.

So.. What's the advantage to either? What are you running and why?

Pure personal preference. Vertical is nice for long periods of maintaining a grip on the gun while doing something like a patrol through a village. The angled grips are nice (as are the verticals) for prolonged periods of shooting from an unsupported and moving position. The angled is less likely to get in the way compared to the vertical during maneuvering. Personally, I like having neither.

Tey all three have advantages and disadvantages, but in the end it's really what feels best that determines where you go with this topic.

I personally use a little hand stop, just something to pull back against.

I agree, its preference, but i suggest checking what works with your set up to give you control, and access to your accessories, such as lights and secondary optics.

I encourage a forward grip out on the forearm of the rifle, with thumbs pointed forward, and above the center lien of bore to controll the heaviest part of the gun (barrel), but this can be accomplished with a VFG, AFG, or hand stop

So, determine how best you can control your rifle shot to shot, and if the accessory allows you access to the things you need without compromising the primary mission of shooting the rifle. Choose your forward support accordingly

I will say my own reason for choosing a short VFG of hand stop vs. an AFG is that i can use the VFG or hand stop as a barrier hook for shooting off of an improvised support. the AFG's angle makes htis difficult to do.

I prefer the vertical grip. You can still get pretty much the same grip as the angled grip by gripping the forearm ahead of the vertical an placing your pinky and ring finger on the vertical part. You also have the option of just using the vertical grip. I use the vertical grip for close in shooting for weapon control/retention and the modified grip for longer/unsupported shots.

I just dumped my Magpul AFG on a buddy who wanted it. Vertical foregrip for me on all of my ARs.

Personal preference.

Sometimes you would like one or the other, but honestly I shoot a slick gun, have for years and will continue to. A foreword grip of any kind does not offer more in convenience or operability than it does in the PITA Dept. Ask me how one feels when stabbed into ur side or leg during urban movement, or when it gets wrapped in your sling trying to get out of the damn 1151. Or gets caught on ur leg on a fastrope and you catch the buttstock in the chin. I have dozens of examples why slick is just the way I like it.

Learn to drive the gun with or without and you won't care either way. It's not the shooting that will make up ur mind. It's all the other things you have to do between the shots that will determine whether you want one or the other. Like I said. Personal preference.

I agree, personal preference. I use a broomhandle type VFG, but I'll be switching it for a Magpul RVG soon. I don't have huge hands, so there's about an inch of real estate on the broom handle that I don't use. It'll be an inch less to snag on stuff as well. I have a couple friends who run the AFG, and one in particular who doesn't run a foregrip at all. Either way, if it works for you, go with it.
