NRA Range Safety Rules

1. ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
2. ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
3. ALWAYS keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.

Know your target and what is beyond.
Know how to use the gun safely.
Be sure the gun is safe to operate.
Use only the correct ammunition for your gun.
Wear eye and ear protection as appropriate.
Store guns so they are not accessible to unauthorized persons.
Be aware that certain types of guns and many shooting activities require additional safety precautions.


Club Specific Rules

A designated Range Safety Officer must be on duty at all times.
The RSO may not shoot while on duty. His or her attention must be on safety at all times.
The RSO duties may be rotated, but it must be clear to everyone on the line who the RSO is.
The RSO is to be obeyed at all times. No arguments. Safety is non-negotiable.
The RSO has the authority to shut down the range, and remove anyone from the range as required.

1) No alcoholic beverages at club shooots.
2) Because of the high fire danger in Colorado, no tracer or incendiary ammunition allowed.
3) Do not shoot trees or animals.
4) No drugs of any kind.
5) No felons allowed.
6) No illegal firearms.
7) Club shoots are family friendly. All conduct, and language should be appropriate.
8) You pack it in, you pack it out.
9) NO Glass or Dangerous/Hazardous Materials will be used as targets.


General Range Rules

Always obey all commands given by the Range Officer.

Eye and Ear protection is mandatory.

A specific and well defined firing line must be established prior to any shooting.

The RSO will vigorously enforce the firing line rules.

When range is hot, no one may proceed downrange, forward of the firing line.

When range is cold, unload and open the action on your firearm making it safe.
- Firearms that fire from an open bolt should have the magazine removed, the safety on, and the bolt closed.

Upon the command to Cease Fire, safely unload your firearm, lock the action open and lay the firearm down.

No weapon handling is allowed while the range is cold.

Load your firearm only at the firing line.

Never turn around or face in an unsafe direction or up-range with a loaded firearm.

Keep you firearm pointed downrange at all times.

Do not put your finger on the trigger until your sights are on your target and you are ready to fire.

Adjust your target so that all the rounds fired through it strike the backstop downrange.

Every round you fire must strike the berm downrange. If your rounds leave the range, so do you!

Clean up. Pick up and dispose of all fired cases. Dispose of your used targets in the garbage can.

Do not throw or leave any garbage on the ground. This includes cigarette butts, cleaning patches, etc.

Keep children under control at all times.

Always treat every firearm as if it were loaded and could fire. Never point any firearm at another person.

Always check the condition of any firearm you handle to be sure of it’s loaded or unloaded condition.

Any disorderly conduct will result in the invitation to leave and a subseqent ban from the site.

Any blatant acts of violence will result in the offender being turned over to the authorities

Anyone convicted of any felony will not be allowed at any club shoot or other club activity.

Anyone convicted of any crime that prohibits them from owning or possessing a firearm will not be allowed at any club shoot or other club activity. This includes those misdemeanors as proscribed in the Colorado Revised Statutes.

Anyone currently on probation or parole, or under the supervision of any court or law enforcement agency will not be allowed at any club shoot or other activity.

Minors must be escorted by a parent or legal guardian.

Anyone who has received a dishonorable discharge from the United States or any other military organization will not be allowed at any club shoot or other activity.

Managers, moderators, and other staff members have an obligation to enforce all these rules, and may at their discretion, ask any one to leave a club activity at any time for any reason. Failure to abide by any such ruling, or to comply with any directive given by a safety officer will not be tolerated.

C.R.S. 18-12-108. POSSESSION OF WEAPONS BY PREVIOUS OFFENDERS.


A PERSON COMMITS THE CRIME OF POSSESSION OF A WEAPON BY A PREVIOUS OFFENDER IF THE PERSON KNOWINGLY POSSESSES, USES, OR CARRIES UPON HIS OR HER PERSON A FIREARMS AS DESCRIBED IN SECTION 18-1-109 (3)(h) OR ANY OTHER WEAPON THAT IS SUBJECT TO THE PROVISIONS OF THIS ARTICLE SUBSEQUENT TO THE PERSON’S CONVICTION FOR A FELONY, OR SUBSEQUENT TO THE PERSON’S CONVICTION FOR ATTEMPT OR CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT A FELONY, UNDER COLORADO LAW OR ANY OTHER STATE’S LAW OR UNDER FEDERAL LAW.


FEDERAL FIREARMS CONTROL ACT


TITLE 18 UNITED STATES CODE OF THE GUN CONTROL ACT OF 1968, AS AMENDED, PROVIDES: “ANY PERSON WHO...HAS BEEN CONVICTED BY A COURT OF THE UNITED STATES OR OF A STATE OR ANY SUB-DIVISION THEREOF, OF A FELONY...WHO RECEIVES, POSSESSES, OR TRANSPORTS IN COMMERCE, OR AFFECTING COMMERCE...ANY FIREARMS, SHALL BE FINED NOT MORE THAN $250,000.00 OR IMPRISONED FOR NOT MORE THAN FIVE YEARS, OR BOTH, WITHOUT PAROLE.” CERTAIN OFFENDERS CAN SUFFER ADDITIONAL PENALTIES.


THE ABOVE LAWS REMAIN IN EFFECT AFTER DISCHARGE OF YOUR SENTENCE OR PERIOD OF PAROLE. A VIOLATION OF THE ABOVE LAWS MAY RESULT IN PROSECUTION IN FEDERAL OR STATE COURT.
