i always thought mousetrap was about as stupid a name as could be put on an interchange. plus, "the narrows" and the jackass on KOA that calls 225 "two and a quarter."

just cutesy crap that isn't helpful. imagine coming through town and some idiot on the radio says "wreck at the mousetrap"--how is that helpful if you're passing through?

It was always the Mousetrap back in the days when there was the traffic control tower there (it was never actually used by the State Patrol). Then they rebuilt it to be "less confusing" (???) in the 80s. Once again, it is a major choke point, and idjits will cut across 6 lanes of traffic, only to find they took the wrong exit and cut across the gore point and cut more people off...

It was the "Mousetrap" back in 1980 when I first got to Denver. of course we had "Bronco Bricks" as well.

I do remember my first time through it at 4pm....... Ah, now I get it.

And it will always be the "Mousetrap" to me.

I remember that day very well, I was driving a tow truck at the time and was the second truck to the scene. Nobody knew at first what it was until a Fire Chief was able to contact the shipper. Once it was known what it was everybody scattered like ants on a hot plate.
IIRC it took about 12 hours to get the fish loaded up on another truck. We then spent about another 4 righting the truck/trailer and getting it out of there. A lot of people don't realize that mishap and a chlorine leak in the rail yard @ 48th and Fox were very instrumental in today's Haz-Mat regulations.
I am native here and believe it or not before they reworked the interchange in '68 or so it was known as "Malfunction Junction". After it was reworked and they built the Traffic Tower there it was known as the "Mousetrap".
They started to redo it in 86 or 87 to its current configuration.
There used to be a second Traffic Tower although much smaller at Denver's "second Mousetrap": 6th Ave and I-25.

TREX was a "Clusterfuckasaurus" and guess what, before too much longer (a couple years) they are going to start on the second phase of TREX, Broadway to 6th Ave. That is why they are redoing the bridge at Alameda.

I haven't heard it referred to as the "Mousetrap" since before I could drive, so I never knew where it was.

Not looking forward to another TREX.
