Also only partly true. No ammo loaded in the firearm. I've flown a couple of dozen times with mags loaded w/ammo and then I put the mags in a Fobus paddle holster and then the whole thing goes in the locked hard case that also houses the firearms. Print the page from the TSA, keep it in your pocket and be confident of what you're doing and nobody will question your actions or motives. Never had an issue and half of the time I'm telling the person checking them in how to do their job. Politely of course.

I pretty frequently will use the locks that come with the firearms to lock the slide open in the box and find that it tends to go a little bit smoother when I do this. May just be perception though as I've never really had an issue.
No, it's been this way since the TSA started being the TSA as things have only got more strict since 9/11 but they really haven't changed as far as firearms are concerned since then aside from a very brief period where you were unable to travel with firearms at all until they squared away the new policy regarding them.
Wasn't that when you turned 18 and went on your first cross-country travel all by yourself?

TSA and the Ticket counter folks seem to have conflicting ideas on what is and what is not allowed. I prefer to limit my interaction with either entity to a minimum. Hence No ammo in mags. Even with paperwork in hand, one or the other will still go UMMM I need to check with my Supervisor. Dicking around for 20 - 30 min while their "superior" who has no clue either is enroute, IMO isn't worth the hassle.
They read the info / reg then shrug their shoulders before walking off. Oh yeah it is leagl, but i've spent needless time with amateurs.
Think I'll write a letter to ATF asking for clarification![]()
