All matching serial numbers on sks. Just can't figure how to open the small round compartment on the stock. I'm thinking cleaning tools of some kind

Stick your finger in there by pushing in on the round metal “butt stock door”... if there’s a cleaning kit, it’ll be in a metal cylinder shaped container that is spring loaded to come out after the round little “door” is out of the way.

If you're talking about the butt stock, as mentioned push cover in and cleaning kit will pop out. If you're talking about that side piece with 2 holes in it DO not do anything to it. It's not meant to be removed.

Before you do anything give it a good cleaning, especially the bolt.
remove the bolt, knock cross pin from bolt to get firing pin out. Soak in some degreaser then use a q-tip to get any residual grease out. Then spray that area with break kleener to verify there's no grease in that channel. The grease in the FP channel is one of the main causes of slam firing with the SKS.

That small end cap with hole on the cleaning kit sits over the muzzle acts like a bore guide to keep the cleaning rod from hitting the muzzle. Cleaning rod goes through the larger section of kit, drops through small cap in to barrel.

Buy cheap steel case ammo, leave that stock 10 round "mag" there, get stripper clips, have fun shooting it.

Just ordered DeSantis Econobelt Heavy Duty Belt for Conceal Carry.

It was under 20, and great reviews online.

This will be my first non-5.11 ccw belt.

Thanks for the info both Great-Kazoo and Chuckchili. I pushed the cover but it only opens about half way. Guess its possible the cleaning kit was somewhere. Will clean bolt for sure. I'm just happy to finally have an sks. I've wanted one for a long time.

That's due to the kit being spring loaded. Once the cover goes past the kit it pops out.
