Default I could make this into a separate PSA thread.

After being on a 7 month waiting list for a vaccination in short supply I got the first of two Shingles vaccinations using the latest (2017-->) Shringrix formulation which is recommended over the previous (2006-->) Zoster vaccine. The Zoster is only good for ~5 years and is not adequately effective for older seniors. People who turn 60 shouldn't fail to get the Shingles vac (unless you want to suffer painful sores potentially for years). I got my first Zoster as soon as insurance would cover it at age 60. This first of 2 Shringrix vacs cost me $148 even with Medicare and supplemental RX. Far better than getting Shingles.

See the CDC paper for the lowdown: https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd/shi...vax/index.html

I just had my physical two weeks ago and the doc said I needed to get on their shingle shot list. So I got on it, they told me expect a two year wait. They get about seven doses a month from the feds, don't know why the feds are regulating it? Maybe just getting us ready when we're all on Obama's Un-affordable Care act.

I think it was underestimated demand, maybe by the feds or maybe by the US provider, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), which makes Shingrix. It may be the reason why it costs so much, but who knows and who will fess up? I got on wait lists at Walgreens and Sam's, and Sam's came through first. Walgreens said they're getting 10 doses a month at one Longmont store.

We went white water rafting down Clear Creek. It was pretty fun.
