I don't understand why the guy was carrying an EMPTY gun.

In some states it's legal to OC so long as the handgun doesn't have a mag inserted. Stupid, I know but that might be why the officer 'harassed' him.

I don't know much about Oceanside and the laws there, but the cop was very professional about it. I don't think he has the right to require an ID, however he might be within his rights to request a carry permit which is the same thing.

I wonder about the airsoft question.

Do people OC airsoft guns in public, meaning people older than 12?

Looks like a good interaction to me. All around, good stuff. I don't blame the guy, or think he was particularly rude, and I think the cop handled it well. In a situation like that, I don't think the guy did anything goofy, maybe a little brusk, but to be fair the guy he was talking to (LEO) was asking for his ID, his name and disarmed him, and was probably at least considering detaining him. Considering the severity of the situation, I don't blame him for staying short with his answers. Maybe not friendly, but surely professional, and that's all anyone could ask for.

Ah ... well there you go (however California Law is goofy).

I wonder if one could get away with carrying in CA like young IDF folk carry their M16s in public in Israel ... they have a device clipped to the magazine that goes into the magwell, thus keeping the magazine out of the gun but quickly and easily accessible.

I wonder if they make those for a Glock.

I wasn't talking about rifles ... I was talking about using something similar to what the Israelis use on rifles but for handguns.
