This thread has me thinking a little. You see my soon to be X always has the kids stand next to the local LE at baseball games for a photo. I guess it's a way of saying, "hi look at us we are in Denver." The last time she did this I was standing back with the peeps and you should of heard the commits. What a thankless job. You got a person standing there and only because he has a uniform on he gets crap. There's a person behind that badge and not many see beyond it.
By the way, the cops seem to love being photographed with the kids.
My 2 cents: I do not believe that 90% of the community hates or dislikes police officers, and they sure as hell love them when 911 is pushed. The focus is put on the "bad" cops because it appears to the public LE's are exceptionally bad about policing their own...It is expected that those who enforce the law also know and abide by it.
As far as a "thankless" job, I call bulllshit. LE is probably thanked far more often than any other profession out there aside from fire and military. And if someone wants to be thanked as part of his or her profession, they should probably switch to a career in medical care. For those of you who disagree, insure you thank your trashman, the electrician, plumber, truck driver, and grocery worker, because they have a far greater impact on your daily life then LE.

I agree whole heartedly that this guy is the exception. But as hard as I try, I cannot muster any sympathy for him. A 14 yr. veteran and he set himself & his partner up to get killed had this person really been a BG. Having a bad day is one thing & it does not justify threatening to execute a citizen. He decided to be Johnny Bad Ass with what he viewed as a weak, easy target then realized he had handled it all wrong. If this is how he handles stress, he is the one who should never be allowed to carry a weapon.
Having said all that, I can think of only one time when I dealt with a cop that was less than professional.
Just my 2 cents.
sadly again, its probably because of the bad ones shoving that badge into the face of the populace.
It is a tad difficult to see the person on the other side of the badge when its in your face.
and again, its the few bad ones that screw it up for the rest of the good ones. So when we see one, we assume its a bad one until proven otherwise, and lets face it, Cops aren't exactly easy to cozy up to.
There's a link part way down this page of a video showing an Oceanside officer contacting someone who is open carrying. The difference is night and day.

Third video shows Canton cop making death threats
Officer Daniel Harless is heard on dash cam threatening to kill a passenger
By PoliceOne Staff
CANTON, Ohio — Another video has surfaced showing Canton police officer Daniel Harless threatening passengers during a traffic stop, which is the third time he has been caught on camera exhibiting aggressive behavior.
Harless is heard on dash cam threatening to kill a passenger he and his partner had pulled over.
“If you scratch you balls wrong, I’m going to pull my gun and I am going to shoot you,” he said. “I’m so close to caving in your (expletive) head.”
An internal affairs investigation found that Harless violated three department rules and regulations during the December incident: deportment, cooperation with the public, and treatment of persons in custody.
Investigators also found Harless violated the same three rules during two other stops where he was captured on dash cam exhibiting similar behavior, according to WEWS. Harless received national attention when the other two videos went viral in July.
Canton police records show there have been 18 internal affairs complaints against Harless since 2000, and in each case, he was exonerated.
Harless is currently on administrative leave, and a hearing is scheduled for September 7.
