Thread: Which 45?

    Default Which 45?

I'm getting a new 45. I'm trying to decide which one to go with. I want a full size 45 to use as a truck gun, carry when bow hunting, open carry gun and to take to the mountain ranges to shoot every month or so. It may just be a crap shoot but here are the ones I'm looking at.

    1. Glock 21
    2. Springfield XD
    3. Smith &Wesson M&P

Right now, I'm leaning towards the Glock with the M&P a very close second. I just thought I'd see if you guys had experience with any of these. Which one would you get and why?

Default I am a glock guy

So my choice would be the G-21. I have the large frame, short frame and the 30 in 45. Wish at least one was OD LOL.

My choice would be the M&P, without a 2nd thought. Ergonomically the M&P is far superior than the other 2 options. Just remember the standard mags are only 10 rnds. That -can- be a turn-off. It is a very slim staggered mag polymer .45. M&P also has palm swells the other 2 don't, also interchangeable backstraps.

Well, my choice would be the Springfield. (How's that for help since you already have one vote for the Glock and one for the S&W) I find the ergonomics of the XD to be better than your other options (for me at least). Having put quite a few rounds through mine I find it to be very easy to shoot and very accurate. That being said, if I had larger hands my vote might go to the Glock.

I have the M&P 45 (that your welcome to shoot anytime you like to try it out), it is ok. I am not a Glock guy so that particular one wouldnt even be on a list of mine, The XD's are ok also, you are a bigger guy so you might like the bigger grip of the XD.

As for plastic guns the M&P are pretty nice for the money, mine has the Trijicon night sights which makes it pretty cool.

All that being said, (strictly in my opinion) I would get a 1911. I am a 1911 guy, so they always rate high on my list. If you cant drop someone with 9 rounds with the .45...well......

Good luck with your hunt and if you like we can get together and you can shoot a couple of my hand guns.

SHOOT THEM FIRST!!! Especially the Glock. It's the only final way of telling if you are compatible with that gun.

Ask around to see if someone will let you shoot theirs. Also there are ranges around that have them for rent. Some of the ranges-dealers will give you a credit for the rental if you end up buying one.

Go with the G21 OR the Smith, Glock would be my first choice. Smith&Wessons quality control is not that great right now. I love S&W but right now I would not buy one, my brother just baught one and has had it back 2 times, 3 but the 3rd time was operator error.

I'm a glock guy but the M&P feels better in the hand. The trigger can use a little work though.

Some folks will bash it for the fact that a tool is "needed" to take the M&P down. I say "needed" bc the only use for dropping the lever in the magwell is only to avoid pulling the trigger to remove the slide. Otherwise it comes apart just like the old XD's.
