    Reminded me of this:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv...district27.htm

Mr. Howard had to resign for using the word "niggardly" properly.

I think it's the movie "Clerks" that a character rattles off a list of racial terms? I must admit that I didn't know half of those so I'll probably end up in the news someday for using a word properly but having offended the purple speckled hairless condor or something

Yes, keep it up, every Republican is racist and evil! I'm sure he did not mean the negative meaning. Like you said, he meant it for the sticky situation we're in. To even appear racist is political suicide. More swayed speak from our token lib!

I should have been more clear in my response.

Lanborn was practicing: Dog-whistle politics, also known as the use of code words, is a term for a type of political campaigning or speechmaking which employs coded language that appears to mean one thing to the general population but has a different or more specific meaning for a targeted subgroup of the audience. The term is invariably pejorative, and is used to refer both to messages with an intentional subtext, and those where the existence or intent of a secondary meaning is disputed. The term is an analogy to dog whistles, which are built in such a way that the high-frequency whistle is heard by dogs, but appears silent to human hearing.

Man, Ronin, you must be the biggest doof on the planet. Don't you realize that when Reagan was in office he mandated that all blacks were to be referred to as tar babies and that Lamborn was just coming into politics at the time and knew nothing other than what Reagan brainwashed him to be? It's NOT Lamborns fault (the blatant racist), it is directly Reagan and Bush's fault (because Bush's dad was Reagans VP and passed the culture down).

And don't even get me STARTED on how Reagan was the kingpin behind slavery and the puppet master of Adolf Hitler and has proven direct bloodline ties to Genghis Khan!

Sorry, couldn't help myself . Back to your regularly scheduled debate now please.

My favorite movie line ever. I love that whole scene. Particularly as a southerner who knew far more clansmen than should be considered acceptable!

Oh ok, that makes it a lot more clear to me... nynco is psychic! Do you know for sure his intent was to code his wording? What if he was brought up with the use of the word "tar baby" and just felt comfortable using it for this situation (and no way racist)? You don't. But neither do I, but I do like to give people the benefit of the doubt and will go as far to assume that he was not intending a dual meaning, that he never intended the phrase to be taken out of context and interpreted as racist. Like I said before, being construed as racist is political suicide. This is America 2011, not 1961 where a politician can spew hateful double speak and get away with it. I'd like to believe Lamborn is smarter than that.
