I'm going to split with you on this one a bit. I don't think he meant it the way it is portrayed (you are correct, that would be political suicide to use SUCH a derogatory term today), but I have to also admit that if the same situation came out of a dems mouth that I might not be so forgiving. If Obama referred to us a crackers I would be first on the racist calling bandwagon, even if he meant something stupid like "hollow flavorless cookies". So, if the shoe were on the other foot I might take it out of context simply because I despise the man already and can point at him and say "see, see, I told you he hated Whitey!".
It was a stupid comment and it was probably said without any though to it's double meaning, but to say it was a blatant racist remark, cleverly disguised, I really don't think so. But, I do understand that all libs will think so and there's nothing I can do about that.
