Could someone, in one sentence, explain what a liberal and conservitaves are?

Cause part of me sees the root of the word liberal as liberty, which I was told is a good thing.

    That is serious question.

Libs believe in more government, more programs, and more regulation; conservatives believe in less government, less spending on bs programs like welfare, and less regulation- guns, freedom, and don't give them so much power.

Based on those results I'd say you were a left leaning libertarian.
Modern liberalism is based on the idea that reality is obligated to conform to one's beliefs because; "I have the right to believe whatever I want".

I'm assuming you took this one http://www.theadvocates.org/quiz
If that's the place then the Advocates for Self Government is a libertarian organization and I wouldn't place my affiliations based on their results. By the way, I wouldn't for ANY organization that is not proven to be 100% non partisan and unbiased. For that matter I wouldn't take a damn test, I would study the issues, look at those who support both sides and make up my own mind. It's like getting your facts from Wikipedia.

Where did you take the test? Just curious. I also wouldn't put much stock into it, because either "side" is likely to skew the results to favor them.

Once upon a time "Liberal" meant small government, lots of freedom and free market capitalism.

Collectivists, stateists, "Progressives" etc co-opted the term "Liberal" back around the time of the depression (when the term "Progressive" fell out of vogue, since it was actually "Progressives" that exacerbated the problem and made it clear they wanted to eliminate our constitutional form of government and free market capitalism to "fix" things).

When we look at the original term "liberal", that term is more accurately replaced with "libertarian" today.

Modern conservatives share a lot with libertarians (even though both conservatives and libertarians would protest such a statement). But most of us that claim the moniker "conservative" are in reality more libertarian than anything else.

The big difference between liberals and libertarians is that libertarians appear "liberal" when it comes to social issues (sex, religion, drugs/alcohol, morality etc) but agree with conservatives when it comes to small government and free market capitalism.

Liberals are evil, unattractive, retarded and responsible for everything bad in the world; conservatives are awesome, intelligent, right about everything and have never done anything bad, ever.

Oh, I forgot one. All liberals are working towards putting everyone in gas chambers.

I think that about sums it up

"A lot of people seem obliged to have a viewpoint."
