    Agreed.... but SocSec was never meant to be all someone would need. Which if you think that meager paycheck is enough to live comfortably on, then you need to look at the cost of living. SS is a base above zero. As it was meant to be. There is nothing stopping you from planning your retirement to augment SS.

    Right, but I would rather have that money that goes into SS to invest on my own terms along with my extra investments...

    SS is the base. We all pay. The reform needed is to make SS a flat tax on ALL forms of income investment income, long term and short term with NO cap like we have at 100K today. Then the rate would be 2%.
