Why drill now......... wait till the world runs dry. Pump the world dry and when oil starts to really run out, then drill here. Sorry I believe in making sure America stands on top when things will eventually get worse. Oil is finite. Why waste it now? Oil does a whole hell of a lot more for our economy than just gas. Think what a world would be like without plastic.

If you agree with Flan, likely you have never owned a business. If you had owned a business, not some little internet business but a business with employees, property, vehicles, equipment, etc, you would know that the gov't quickly becomes the enemy. This thru taxation and regulation. Year by year the gov't finds new ways to take bites out of profitability. Discourage you from hiring, literally forcing you- thru taxation and regulation- to stop growing, reduce benefits and just try to survive. This is the plight of small businesses today. Thru profit- small businesses become big businesses and employ more as they grow.

Listen up guy we're talking public/government policy. Of course it makes sense from a business perspective. But we are talking a government perspective. Agreed gov't needs to get off their backs if they're here at home, doing business at home. I meant penalize companies that screw the pooch and leave then make profits back here at home. It is without a doubt a two sided problem. Over regulation on the one side and the trend to run over seas on the others.

Is that why so many companies had so much riding on GATT, NAFTA, and bailouts from the WTO and governments abroad? Corporations care very much about themselves and use what ever influence they can to make sure govt's assist them. A successful company today doesn't see the govt as the enemy but as a partner in a bank heist. Screw em both with a stick govt and big business.

    Listen up guy?

Regarding drilling for fossil fuels. The need is there and the oil will be drilled and pumped out of the Earth, whether it is here or in the sandbox.
That is reality. So lets start drilling here again, make us less dependant on foreign sources (isn't that the mantra? Listen up!). Bring the jobs back, put Americans back to work. Plastic. Until one of you scientists
create or discover a new chemical element, until you find something as cheap, lightweight and strong, it is here to stay. Imagine a world without plastics. Hmmmm- better listen up and look around from where-ever you're sitting. Make the plastic disappear in your mind. Fun.

Sorry but things are a little bad now but will get FAR worse. Once oil really runs dry there will be next to no trade in it. Countries will horde it for national interest reasons.

    Plan for the future.

I agree with Flan, the only way to have a healthy economy is if we return to a nation that imports raw materials (oil one of them) and exports finished goods.

Fuck free trade. I want Fair Trade.

I don't mind using our own raw materials as long as we are keeping ahead of others in new technologies to replace them. Fair trade the real way, we win. Not the boulderite give the columbian blanket maker a chance.
