I need a towel boy... my brain just exploded and I'm drooling all over my desk... Ouch that hurts! hollohas, I know how you feel now, and I watch a shitton of that show the Universe... I think I'm going to try to quote that on this subject sometime soon, instead of nynco spouting off about Star Gate like some 14 year old nerd living in his mom's basement... sorry nynco, I wasn't trying to insult you, but I have to say it: Stargate!? You're addressing complex astrophysics with a fucking sci-fi/fantasy show? It's un-scientific based fiction... that's like General Schwartzkopf going to war with Iraq in 1991 using Robert Heinlien as his tactical inspiration. Doesn't work.
Hawking did state that the infinite expanse would be impossible to calculate for us being such a small speck in the wide spectrum of the universe, so I think that explains his lack of theory on the matter, because theory is impossible if it's infinite. You cannot physically calculate infinity, it's not possible so therefore if the universe is infinite we would never be able to tell because you couldn't prove or disprove something so big (that's really the only word I can come up with) and just taking time to measure it would be more than the entire existence of an entire species... we're talking sextillion years here minimum (that's 10 to the 21st power -21 0's). Okay, I need to go put myself on O2 now...
