FBI agents descended on a Colorado Springs outdoors shop Tuesday afternoon after a reported sighting of the three fugitive siblings accused of unleashing a fusillade at a police officer in Florida and robbing a bank in Georgia.
Agents interviewed employees of REI near Woodmen Boulevard and Interstate 25 after it is believed the trio quickly purchased a tent and left the store, according to a store employee.
It does not appear any of the store’s employees spoke with 21-year-old Ryan Edward Dougherty, 26-year-old Dylan Dougherty Stanley or 29-year-old Lee Grace Dougherty while they shopped, he said.
A customer in the REI parking lot called police around 1 p.m. to report the possible sighting of the three fugitives and Colorado Springs police issued alerts to officers to be on the lookout for a white Subaru Impreza with the Texas license plate LCS909.
The FBI's Denver office issued a statement Tuesday evening saying reports that the Doughertys were in Colorado Springs appear “credible.” The three fugitives may be trying to elude capture by hiding out or camping in rural areas, the FBI said.
Authorities have warned anyone who spots the Doughertys not to approach them.
“It’s real simple, these folks are armed and dangerous, Valdosta, Ga., police Cmdr. Brian Childress said Monday. “It sure seems like they have a death wish. We’re just hoping they surrender and they do it peacefully so no one gets hurt.”
The three have been on the run since Aug. 2 when the vehicle they were in was pulled over for speeding in Zephyrhills, Fla. The vehicle sped off and the pursuing police officer said at least two of the people inside fired 20 or more shots at him.
A few hours later, in Valdosta, Ga., three people wearing masks robbed the Certus Bank. One robber had an AK-47 assault rifle and another had a machine pistol. The robbers fired shots into the ceiling and stole an undisclosed amount of money.
Lee Dougherty — a stripper at a Florida night club, according to ABC News — has charges pending against her in Florida for hit and run and had previously been charged with battery, the sheriff of Pasco County, Fla., said.
Stanley Dougherty had been charged with marijuana possession. Ryan Dougherty had recently registered as a sex offender and had just been issued an ankle monitor after being convicted of sending sexually explicit text messages to an 11-year-old girl. The monitor was found near the scene of the car chase.
Their mother, Barbara Bell, said Friday she hoped the three would surrender without bloodshed.
“Although they’ve done some very bad things, no one has been physically injured yet. I would encourage my children to turn themselves in,” she said in the interview.
According to authorities, the siblings had been in contact with their mother and sent her a text message that read: “There’s a time for all of us to die.”

Anyone near that area see 25 shut down? Wow, great that no LE was killed in their apprehension. Now just waiting for the Chief of CSP to get on the news and announce "We got 'em."

Why do they always have to come here? We need to be meaner to out-of-staters! And did they think they were just gonna hide out in the mountains like Billy the Kid and Kid Curry? Turned out well for them! They should have went to Robber Roost in Utah, let them deal with em!

One of my customers came in earlier from Colorado City (I'm on the south edge of Pueblo) asking: "Any idea what's going on south? There's like 15 staties, a SWAT team and a bunch of deputies going south on I25 in a BIG hurry."

We seem to draw the best of them. The Texas Seven were right next door right before they got caught a few years ago. They were trying to buy body armor at the police equipment store next door to me.

And then there was the high speed chase that went by here a few years ago. Some guy flipped out, lit his house on fire in Pueblo West, and took off to Colorado City and turned back around towards Pueblo and came by my shop, followed by every available Pueblo PD officer, State Trooper and Sheriff's deputy, including the Sheriff and the Chief of Police. Must have been 15-20 cars chasing him. I think he eventually wrecked and got caught across town.

I was at the gas station right where it happened, heard sirens and the crash, as I came around the corner to look, there was a ton of cops with ar's, shotguns and pistols heading my way, a guy ran by (turned out to be one of the brothers) with about 10 troopers in tow, I got video of that, they caught him up the road. I hi tailed it out of there before I got blocked in, (the curious were flocking in) I have never seen that many cops in one place in my life.
