I live in Denver proper (but, really, let's be real here, I live on the border of Denver and Lakewood, not exactly the hood) and go to LoDo all the time at night to eat at some of my favorite restaurants and hang out doing some people watching. LoDo is a pretty safe place in this situation but I'm not going to wander around off the beaten path because I know it's looking for trouble. When I'm forced to because of where I parked or whatever, then I see every single person as a threat and avoid any situation that might get ugly.

There is one side of me that says if someone had thrown a bottle and hit my girl in any way and hurt her in any way my Apeshit light would go on and I would confront them with no regard to my own personal well being. The other side of me says that it's best to get her to a hospital as soon as possible, note everything about the situation and get the cops involved because I know that A) I would probably shoot somebody, B) probably get charged with something, C) might compromise myself and get my wife raped and/or D) get myself killed.

I can hope that the Army training I went through years ago would kick in and keep me safe but I really can't be certain of that and it's not just my life but the life of my girl that I could put on the line to test it. One-on-one or two I can likely handle, but three or more is probably pushing it.

Well shit, after reading all this, I don't want to have to even DRIVE through Denver on I-25 to get up to Wyoming. Even though this crap "usually" happens at night, I dislike even driving up there during the "safe" daylight hours. Next time I HAVE to drive up through Denver for perhaps the Tanner show, I think I'll ask Alex to clear a path for me.

I must have missed the part where I said I'd shoot a scumbag for tossing a bottle. I don't drink and carry either bub.

I'm not a hot head or some self-proclaimed badass, hitting my wife with a bottle won't go over so well with me.

I used to live in Washington DC for many years, Denver is a much safer place than most cities. That being said, something should be done about this crap and the city is ridiculous for not releasing that information. If I go downtown, and I do sometimes because I am not going to let thugs run me out because they don't me there, I go in a large group of people if I plan on drinking or I carry my gun if I am not going to drink. But I have a huge problem with all of us allowing criminal to overrun our cities. I don't have the answer, but we should be doing something, I think.

I support that notion in theory too. However, in practice it would end up bad for anyone who did it. Vigilantism is frowned on by the police - even if the citizens would probably appreciate it. I have though MANY times of putting together a group of ex Mils or cops to have our own "good guy gang" but know that as much as I hate scumbags that eventually something bad is going to happen and I'll regret my decision to be a vigilante.

For one thing, if we are going to be legal in Denver we can't carry large capacity mags nor do we have automatic weapons - a lot of these scumbags have both. Sure, we'll have tactics on our side but that doesn't guarantee that we'll outwit full autos or a mob.

Hell one of my friends (16yo) was shot and killed for a damn broncos jacket there.
just so you know i spent most of my high school years walking around these parts (seeing as we lived here and all) and i went to manual in 89 so id say i have pretty good idea of how bad this place has been over the years

Denver isn't that bad at all, but I think being cautious as mentioned is important. There are very few parts of Denver I don't feel safe in, and I'll go anywhere in Denver, but my level of caution and awareness may be changed by the neighbourhood...

However, I will say (as being talked about in another thread): Lakeside is one place I wouldn't go hang out at
