I thought about giving mine motorcycle tires or bicycle tires to play with, but I wonder if it's dangerous for them to swallow accidentally. My dog does pretty well at chewing things up and not swallowing them, but every once in a while he gets an upset stomach and I'll see a couple pieces of chewed up toy in his puke. I think the rubber from the Tire Biters is safer, but I'm not positive if there's even a difference at all.
Kongs! My guys love them and have lasted for several years. Firehose toys look sturdy. I also use knotted up climbing ropes.

Our friends had a very aggressive (toward toys) pit years ago that would wreak havoc on us playing football in the yard. Every dropped or incomplete pass he would swoop in and try and nab the ball, if he got it he would pop it quick. That was until they got him a Kong... oh and some pits must really hate stuffed animals, everyone of my friends that have pits a stuffed animal gets demolished in minutes, if not seconds.

^^^ Exactly. My dog is partial to soccer balls. It's been more than one occasion that I've had to give some kids whatever change was in my pocket to buy a new ball.
Black and red kongs here. Occasional nyla-bones.
