just make a leather cover like old stens had lol on a realistic note, you might be able to make a nice cover out of those hot barrel pads that mg42/mg3 gunners use to change hot barrels, might check sportsman guide or places like that for the german asbestos barrel mits and pads

The Bowers Griptastic is a quality product. I may not be the best for your application but it will stand up to just about anything you do to it.

They aren't intended for frequent removal and installation. They are a pain to put on and get off.

"You sir, would be wrong. I've seen cheapo's burn or fall off."

I would be right. He was asking if the cover would work if the can was a ratchet type. The cover has nothing to do with it. So You sir, are wrong in saying I'm wrong.

    Not to threadjack.

How do these impact the life and function of the suppressor? I'm curious since they are designed to keep the heat from rising off the can and thus forcing the can to retain more heat.

There function is more designed around a precision rifle aspect , the heat from the can creates mirage in the scope . The string of fire is completed and the cover slid back to allow the can to cool .

The use on others is more to keep from burning yourself . Like I said there really is no cover designed for sustained semi / fully automatic centerfire rifle , ie 223/556 , that will hold up to the heat that is generated .

Also like said before TAB gear does NOT recommend there covers on semi auto 223's , the SureFire mini the op is talking about .

Thanks for the explanation. I did realize the specific purpose was to prevent a mirage for long range precision shooting. I also thought it was used to reduce the heat signature of the can via FLIR.

Centerfire rifle suppressors can reach temps of over 1000 degrees Fahrenheit and the covers don't cover the whole thing so there is no way it wouldn't show up on a flir cover or no cover .

Here is an example of the heat generated by a 223 can , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G83IOyH7x90 , the can in the video has probably double the volume of the SureFire mini and as such heats up slower .
