SKS pin issue

Strange question, Im using a chinese SKS (I know thats the first problem) and every 100 rounds or so I will have a round not go off. I will check it and it wasnt hit hard enough to fire, try the same round again and fires fine. The rest of the rounds were hammered pin looks like it struck them damn near an 1/8 of an inch. Thoughts?

what ammo? if you feel the chi com sks is sub par i may have an interest in it

No, I love it it just has worse reviews than some others, all ammo types the pin impression on the primer is light, like the pin didn't strike very hard.

Give the bolt a good soak in a good solvent, disassemble it and make sure it is near surgical clean. One drop of oil on the firing pin only on re assembly. Check for any burrs and ensure free travel of the firing pin.
A chunk of Cosmolene or a piece of debris in the FP channel can cause what you describe.

I was going to say that sounds like a typical cos soaked bolt. Also don't be too quick to judge chinese sks' they are some oif the best made most reliable sks' made, I'd take a chicom sks over yugo or russian any day, just my opinion though

+1 on the cosmo in the firing pin channel. Also could be a weak hammer spring. You may not beable to tell on dissably, but a couple of pounds on the spring can make a difference. Also check the firing pin for burs and make sure it is not catching when moving.

Definitely sounds like the guys already called it. Cos crap. Had a yugo with so much cosmo in the bold assembly it was causing the firing pin to be off center when hitting the rounds. If you still have a problem you might have a micro bur on the pin or assembly housing. Clean it, if the problem persists get a magnifying glass and file down any burrs you notice. As to chicom sks's their fantastic.

Yeah, like I said i love it, but alot of people say they hate them.

I have checked the pin for cos and debris before but I dont think I checked the pin housing so I will do that,
I dont think its the spring can be the issue, because the other 99 rounds are struck extremely hard, deeper impressions than any other gun Ive seen, could be wrong dont know.

Maybe change the firing pin? Does it have a firing pin spring installed? Is the pin bent or upside down (I can't remember if they will work upside down it's been a while - no poking fun lol) The Chinese ones didn't come with a return spring but sometimes they are installed after to help with "slam fires" lol. Had a yugo that did kind of the same thing with the hard primed milspec ammo - never really looked into it though, just choked it up to the firing pin return spring.

Also, could the action not closing completely (like in the micrometer range) cause this problem (asking a question of the more knowledgeable members - just a thought). I know if it is off enough to cause chamber troubles you'd notice but what if it was dirty in the action and just sometimes hanging up by a miniscule amount?

Ack... I would stay away from those aftermarket spring loaded ones. My buddies sks had only problems with one installed. Could also be the hammer spring, but if its hitting them quite hard then one sorta does something funny its probably the firing pin channel.
