    Default Mini Amps

    Howdy all,

I doubt I could carry a tune in a bucket with the lid welded shut. That being said, I have a hair up the back side to build a 3 string cigar box guitar. I may not be able to play but I can build. Hoping to learn to play at least on song. Mostly interested in the delta blues, slide and maybe some county swing.

It's not too much more time to add electric capabilities. Cigar box amps look pretty kewl but I'm not much on electricals. Next up is mini amps. Hey, the inards can be pulled out and added to a cigar box.

So, what is the most versatile mini amps? Not looking for a wall of sound, just a small amp with some adjustability.
    • The Danelectro Hodad caught my eye first. I like the retro look and basic controls. 9 volt and AC adapter is a plus.
    • Marshall MS2 Micro Amp- Hey, it's a Marshall. I'd be the envy of everyone when I pulled out my 5 1/2" Marshall stack.
    • Orange Micro Crush PiX3. Looks to be little more versatile and the tuner is a definite plus. 9 volt and Adapter also.

    Thanks!
What am I missing? Ideas? Suggestions?

The Danelectro looks the most "blues appropriate" ... maybe splurge though and get a Pignose.

I have a Danelectro nifty fifty that is in almost perfect shape. I tried to learn for a bit back in the day but realized guitar is not for me. It's just sitting in my basement if you're interested in an amp for cheap ($50 with longgg cord?).

I have the micro-stack Marshall. It doesn't sound too bad and even has a belt clip. Unless extreme portability is important though, I'd watch craigslist for a small Peavey or Crate 10-15 watt amp.

Oranges have notoriously good sound, but I don't know how it will sound for blues.

A small tube amp, overdrive it a bit, to get a nice blues fuzz. After all as the old saying goes,"tone is in the ear of the beholder" or sumpin like that.

Thanks Nogaroheli but that is bigger than what I'm looking for. I'm also looking for portable battery units. I will keep it in mind if I go to a bigger amp.

The Pignose looks interesting. Although there is no adjustability. Does the Marshall unit's volume turn up to 11? I haven't found anything with tubes. We'll see how the CBG goes. A tube amp would be a whole 'nuther project.

I'm still looking at maybe re-boxing the amp into a cigar box.

This was about the only thing I've found with tubes and cigar boxes.
