Says go after the terrorists, kill the people who did it. Hey that sounds like a nuanced approach that I'm OK with. The idea of an outside force building a national government in Afghanistan would take 100 years and 100 trillion dollars, a total change in their way of life that would take generations to implement. It's cheaper and easier to punish them when they permit terrorists groups inside their borders, while directly attacking the terrorists. We just don't need to foot the bill to give them a proper nation, when they can't hack it themselves.

Can't say how much I like that proposal. I would be very ok with getting a letter of marque to go hunting Somali pirates. Or terrorists.

I have been saying for quite a while now that the way to have handled Afghanistan was to go in with a shit ton of firepower/boots on the ground. Kill every terrorist we could find, destroy all the camps and caves we came across, salt the earth in the poppy fields, declare victory and leave.

With the Somali pirates I figured a BN of Marines on a search a destroy mission for a few months. "Marines, go kill some pirates. It is open season and there is no bag limit" would have been a totally ok way to go.

But his Marque and Reprisal is very nice as well.

Drop some bombs on them and that's enough for me. I don't see how a ten year (and counting), trillion dollar nation building adventure benefits the USA at all.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, no functioning, safe government/nation (as seen in American eyes) will ever exist in the current area mapped as Afghanistan. To try and prop up a pro-US government that is extremist free is an exercise in futility; ask the British, ask the Russians, shit look at the past ten years and ask yourself. And the whole as many boots on the ground as you can get and bomb the shit out of everything approach doesn't exactly make too many friends either.

I like Ron Paul. A lot.

My first reaction to his Mexican border policy was: Whoah! But after giving it some thought... why are they coming here? Is it the cheap hard work? Not really and even if that's it it's nowhere near as much of a drain on our economy as the free medical care and social programs. That's why they come here ultimately. Cut off the social handouts for anyone/everyone and end the war on drugs and the prices of these items plummets making it not worth all the effort, money and lives to traffic. Suddenly the giant fence to the moon on the southern border isn't as necessary. Some of the things RP says seem a bit extreme compared to what we're all used to but if you really think about them with an open mind it seems the ideas that stand out the most to me at first become the ideas I like the most after I think about them more.

I realize this is all more than a single term could accomplish but if we can get things headed in the right direction it's what this country needs. I don't see anyone else willing to do what's right for this country first and foremost.

Our country needs change if it's going to survive. I'm talking about real change here and not political 'change'.

I think people come here to make money and send it home to their family more than they come here for free health insurance.

"Why have we gone to war since WWII with out a declaration of war? Why do we have a monetary system that is not designed by the constitution? Why do we have a welfare state running out of control, not designed by the constitution? You can't pay lip service to the constitution with out obeying it. We should have Peace and Prosperity; that should be our goal. We in foreign policy ought to have a goal in the world- We ought to treat others as we would want others to treat us, and we don't treat others so fairly. We treat them like we're the bully, that we're the police man of the world and we're going to tell them to behave, if they don't listen to us we bomb them, if they listen to us, we give them more money, and its bankrupting this country because we don't live up to our principles. The principles are embedded in our constitution." ~ Ron Paul

This is obe of the reasons. I believe that money ahould stay in our economy instead of being shipped out.

Excellent quote. Frankly one I wish would fall on more open ears. "dont tread on me" a wonderful slogan we have forgotten the meaning of. Let me go about my business peacefully and I shall do the same. The ZAP principal folks, fierce when attacked, docile when left be.

You think they would risk coming here to work for $5/hr doing manual labor if a simple injury could cost them $10k+ the way it does us?
