I got tired of inkjet cartridges pricing the same as new printers, and I've been using a OCR system to scan in everything, I went with a Brother DCP-8085DN, they're selling for about $320 at Walmart, maybe better prices if you Google further.

Has a 25 sheet ADF, and network capable so I can put documents on the scanner in my office and the girlfriend can scan them directly to her computer. I've had it more than a year without any problems, though I am a fairly low volume print and, after an initial large batch of scans, only do them occasionally as new mail arrives that I need to save.
