    Default 1911 Mods

Well as in my previous post:
    http://www.co-ar15.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44430

I am getting into the 1911 world. I have a G.I. model and Mil-Spec both made by Spingfield. Both are parkerized finish pretty much plain janes in their own aspects. I am wanting to do some work to them as I plan on keeping at least one of the two. Just looking at very beneficial mods or ideas that someone with more experience that could guide me in the right direction. Again like I said I am new to these so if I ask dumb questions you will know why.

What are your plans for it? Target/SD?

    ^What Graves said.
If SD, spend your money on lots and lots of the gun's favorite HP ammo, and lots and lots of training.
If for gun games, go for the normal bucket of parts (sights, barrels, triggers, etc.).

Well seeing that I have two one will be defiantly for SD and that leaves the other for target.

If it were me, I'd get some good training, and lots of it, before I thought about getting fancy parts for my gun (with the exception of a good set of basic sights).
No amount of bells and whistles can make up for good and consistent training.
After you get that down, then look at getting parts for your play gun.

Send it back to SACS and have them make it a Pro.

Sell them both and buy one Springfield Loaded plus ammo or try to find a used TRP.

There are four things that will benefit the gun the most as long as it groups well as is from sand bags; in order, sights upgrade, trigger job, high rise beaver tail, extended safety. I would also add a one piece guide rod with bushing and a nre recoil spring that's a weight to your personal preference. This is a simple drop in.

High end training and lots of ammo down range will make you a better shooter moreso than the mods, but the above sure makes shooting my 1911s easier and faster.
Mom's comin' 'round to put it back the way it ought to be.

I had a loaded model about 6 months ago. The previous owner claimed he bought it new and put at least 3000 through it and he was guessing low. I kind of regret trading it but I wanted something a little cleaner so to speak. I did put about 500 rounds through it before I got rid of it and loved it.

The GI model I have does have a one piece guide rod on it right now. I might take that off it and put it on the Mil-Spec
