So I got severely chastised by a friend of mine the other day, and unjustly so.
Here's the short version:
I listen to music that may not be deemed "Conservative" I guess... mainly it's because I don't have only country, all country on my iPod. A lot of it would be classified as "electronic" and "Jam band" type music (not to be confused with techno), and I also happen to like some of The Grateful Dead and String Cheese Incident. Along with it, I go to a lot of these concerts as well. So anyway, my friend invited me to go on a little "end of summer" camping trip with him from Sept 9-11, with our ending up at the Big Chili Cook-off in Evergreen on that Sunday. I already planned on doing the Chili Cook-off since my friend won the year before. But, I respectfully declined in his offer since one of my favorite bands (Sound Tribe Sector 9- don't judge based on the name, they're really good) is playing 2 nights at Red Rocks that weekend. He tore into me because of the "reputation" that STS9 has as hippie music with a big hippie following. He even had the nerve to call me a "Dirty hippie who supports Obama." I about told him he just lost a friend, and do realize that a lot of people who like that music are in fact hippies and d-bag liberals. But how do I tell him that just because I listen to a certain type of music that it takes away from my credibility as a freedom loving, gun toting, right-wing, good ol American boy? I honestly don't know what to say to this guy with his closed minded hateful speech.
