Personally, I'd spend the extra dough on the variable power scope. Vortex makes a great scope for the money.

I've had good luck with my Vortex. You get a lot for your money.
If you are hunting in timber, and you have the fixed 10x-murphy's law says a record 8x8 bull will be 14ft from you and you won't be able to find him in the fov in the 2 seconds you get.....I suppose you could mount a mini holographic and red/green/IR lasers, and a few streamlights on the vortex...we are on the ar-15 board after all.
