Shootin' Den in Colorado Springs

Looks like I get to be the first to post a review for the Shootin' Den here in Colorado Springs.

Stopped by the new store on my way home from work to check out the place and got to meet the proprietors, Laura and Tracy (Laura's boyfriend). Very cool people. It just so happened that today was their 'soft-opening' and still getting inventory logged, etc... Clean shop and nicely done. Can't wait to see the place fully stocked.

I was shown once again just how small of a world it really is when I found out that Laura and Ginsue have been friends for nearly 20 years.

So, I told Laura that I was looking to purchase the Ruger LC9 (which they had in stock) and that Sportsman's Warehouse had one for sale for $360. She said she couldn't match the price but would throw in a box of Hornady 9mm JHP to make up the difference. Sounded good to me and 45 minutes later I was out the door with my latest purchase!

If you're in or near the Colorado Springs area (or driving through), take the time to stop by the stop on Fillmore. It's east of I-25 on the north side of the road just past Mark Dabling Blvd.

I used to hang out at the Shootin Den back in the day. I stopped in there today for the first time in several years to pick up a couple small items. The owners are friendly and the shop is spotless. They went out of their way to look up pricing on three different firearms for me, even though they knew I had no intention of buying today. I will buy from them again.

Chatted with the owners for a bit - nice folks - will provide background on gun stuff for the n00b folks. Some good prices on guns - some of the reloading fixings was a bit expensive - but I still picked up an item or too.

Worked out a deal with Laura and Tracy that I was very pleased with. I've talked to them a couple of times and it seems like they are good people.

I made an unexpected visit to the Shootin' Den on Saturday. I was headed back to the 25 from the gun show and noticed the name outta the corner of my eye and thought i'd check it out. Had no idea about it prior.

Anyway, when i walked in all the employees greeted me.. Kind of surprised me, and certainly was not expecting that from prior experience at gun shops across from CA to FL. I'm a surfer type.. i dress the manner and have the California vocabulary so i don't fit the stereotypical American gun owner type lol. So usually i get the "wtf do you want" look.

Back to the point.. Right away it was a Jim or Matt (sorry, i'm terrible with names) that helped me out originally. Let me check out a couple handguns, told me everything possible about them. Gave me the rundown on CO laws, etc since I'm used to the CA ones. I left to grab my military orders so i can the background check out of the way that day and they gladly put the gun aside without me asking so it would be there when i got back. Once i returned an hour or so later i was once again greeted by name and i finished the purchase through the man who helped me out originally, and Laura. Very very friendly people, and awesome to do business with. Honestly it almost felt like i was getting a VIP treatment for buying a $100k car.. but i was getting a $200 .380 lol.

After this experience, and others throughout the springs, i will only be shopping at or through the Shootin' Den for my local needs from here on out.

I know I'm a noob here on the forum but i hope this helps anybody looking for a friendly store to frequent.

They are gun people without the better and smarter than you attitude. $30 gun transfers made easy. Been in there many times and bought a few guns.

I would like to echo the statements made previously. Excellent shop. I made somewhat of a quick trip run to alot of the shops here on the forum just to get a feel for them. I had a simple question regarding a recall on my Smith & Wesson 1700LS and they were very helpful in answering my questions. What I observed while I was there struck me as very positive. The time the owner spent with a potential gun owner looking for the proper weapon for home defense and personal protection. It was obvious that this gentleman had absolutely ZERO experience with any form of firearm. The owner was patient, understanding and sympathetic to the gentleman's questions even beyond what I would consider "good customer service". That being said, they also stocked a very large supply of Magpul Accessories, actually more than I'd ever seen in one place. The inventory of long guns, handguns, etc. was excellent.

Really nice people, great customer service, and very nicely stocked. And easy to get to, barely more than a block off I-25.

I've used the Shootin' Den for a transfer before and I'm in the process of doing another. I haven't bought a gun from them so far but every time I've been in the store or called they are super friendly and easy to deal with. I'd recommend as a first stop in COS.

Back in the 70's and 80's I used to go there. Cal Johnson was the owner and I understand that he sold and now works there. Always super service, need to stop by again.
