used a conversion kit for a Rem 700 BDL Hidged Floorplate to Detachable Magazine (DM) to accomodate more rounds? If so, your thoughts on either the Badger Ordinance or HS Precision kit?

Also, I have a Rem 700 in .243 and read that I can just use a Rem 700 .308 floorplate and trigger guard and the .243 caliber will work in a 308 Magazine, can anyone confirm this? I am assuming this is true but would like reassurance.

So which would make more sense

• to get the .308 conversion kit for the .243 caliber or
• buy the Rem 700 .308 floorplate/Trigger guard DM?

While back I converted a Remington LTR stock(HS Precision stock) to Badger DBM. Worked great.

Yes, the 243 will feed in a 308 mag.

I would suggest a DBM system using the more common Accuracy International 5 & 10 round mags, Badger, Surgeon.

I just had one of the CDI bottom metal assemblies set into a HS Precision stock by a local gunsmith. CDI will inlet your stock for $60.00 and sell you Accuracy International mags at competitive prices. CDI will tell you that just a little fitting of the mag catch will likely be required when you put everything together. It took me about fifteen minutes being careful and going slow. I am very happy with mine.

I have the Badger DBM as well and have had no feeding issues or problems of any kind, and Badger has been nothing short of stellar any time I have contacted them or needed anything. My question would be about your current stock set up, what are you running? If you are running the original stock and just don't want to reload as much you can look at far less expensive versions or mag extensions that will allow you 7 rounds or something vs. the standard 4. While I was waiting on parts for my build I bought one of these, and it served it's intended purpose until I got the DBM in my new stock. That cost was $21 vs. around $300 for a DBM system, not to mention $60 per additional 5 round AI mag and $70+ for 10 round mags. Depending on what model 700 you have and what stock it came with, it may not be worth getting a DBM system in. I started with an SPS tactical and the original stock was garbage. Putting a DBM on it would have caused more issues because of inletting that needs to be done for it to fit. That's not to say it hasn't been done, I just don't see the value in it.

Are you/will you handload where you may run a much longer OAL? If so- take a look at what internal dimensions the mags offer- Alpha Industries offers a nice AICS clone mag in a couple internal dimensions. ( I run some of my .308 loads to 2.900"+)
Badger Ord, Surgeon, Seekins Precision, R+D Precision and the CDI all seem to be without complaints and use the proven AICS mags.

+1 on the mag extender! If holding more rounds is your primary goal, you cant be the price and simplicity.

oinco brings up a great point, in the reloading aspect. I am just getting into reloading and have not experimented with load lengths at this point, so I have not even taken this into consideration. Although if I am correct and you are going to be running .243 out of a .308 magazine you should have a little more room to play with as far as OAL goes anyways.

I don't have any experience personally or know of anyone who runs the HS precision DBM, but I know they don't use the AI mags they use their own magazine design. If you are set on getting a DBM system, as stated by others I would opt for something that takes the AI mags. All of the DBM systems seem to cost around the same amount $280-$320(some go up from there), the CDI mentioned earlier looks to be the least expensive but most of the others come with one magazine, so if you add the cost of a magazine you will be right in line with almost all of the others. It's really up to personal preference at that point. You should maybe contact some local smiths, maybe there is one that takes less work to install? Maybe even call B&C and see if they have heard anything, or have suggestions on which route to go or what mates to their stocks the best (I have to think the aluminum chassis would make it slightly more difficult to inlet for any system)?

Do some research before you buy and keep an eye out on this and other forums, every now and then a deal pops up. I got my M5 with a 10 round mag both unused for well below what they sell for on popular sites from a private party. Good luck and keep us posted on anything you find out or what you end up going with.

The HS kits are not that great. They use HS mags. Avoid them like the plague.

Badger and Surgeon kits are excellent and both use AI mags.
