Is it just me or does it seem like the newer the pistol, the lager the case.

In the last year I've been looking at a variety of new and used pistols and bought a few of each. One thing I noticed was that it seems like pistols from the '80's-90's have small, simple plastic cases while the newer models have giant plastic boxes; although, cz-pistols come with small boxes.

The Springfield XDm comes with a giant case much bigger than needed to hold all the accessories.

I am wondering if gun companies are using the boxes as part of a marketing plan, look, a nice big box, so there must be something great inside.
