Just watched an all Hispanic crew put my neighbors new roof on and I wondered exactly how many of them had real documents...?

I need a new roof on my house, I have the insurance check and the ok to commence with the work. I have had 5 roofing contractors give me bids and not one has been able to guarantee me that their crews are composed of lawful aliens with work visa's or residents.
They will not be working on my house.
Looks like when it cools down a touch I will be roofing the place.



This is where it starts people. If we as citizens refuse to do business with firms that employ illegal workers the business owners will get the hint (hopefully).

Keep in mind that 9 times out of 10 the $800 job done by the illegal will need to be redone in a few short years by the $1850 citizen.

I know the stereotype is that all the general contractors love the cheap Mexican labor, but I know plenty of contractors that refuse to hire illegals because most of them do crap work.

If you need a ditch dug or some trash hauled off, sure they'll do just fine. But for skilled work, don't scrimp.

Good for you for hiring the legal guy and paying a little more. I know your pain.

I needed 1200 sq ft of concrete in my barn. Got several bids, many from people I suspected...don't know for sure...were illegal. The lower end bids were around the $3800 range. I went with a local guy, a real-life American, and paid him about $6000.

He did a fantastic job and, while I could've used the extra money, I'm glad I didn't have a bunch of illegal aliens taking money away from legal folks.

One of buddie of mine who is hispanic, and owns a painting company.
He complains that illegals are outbidding his work.
He said he would rather do it legally, and just get himself a part time job as a supplementary income.
Now, he got himself a part time job PLUS running his own company.

Yep ... thats a lesson I too have learned the hard way ... and it ain't about mexicans vs gringos, I've hired plenty of worthless po white boys too.

My parents went with a guy and his son who did roofing when the hail killed their roof last year. They even had a bible quote on their flyer (I'm not religious, but still think it sends a good message).

Needless to say, not the cheapest but it was excellent work.
