    Default Canton PD Follow Up

In regards to this thread and the video in it, there is a follow up story!

"UPDATE 7/22/2011: Canton Police announced Thursday that the officer was relieved of all duties in June following an internal investigation complaint filed in this matter. The local Canton Repository has done some additional investigatory work into the officers and an excellent analysis of the video / audio we posted."

Glad to see some justice finally served. I hate how these stories keep popping up and giving PD a bad name... I think it's incumbent upon someone to come out and say not all are bad, and the bad ones are really a very big minority. It's just too bad that the bad ones get all the press while the ones who do good (which is most) just keep on doing what they do with little to no recognition.

Maybe all you Google Fu Masters could find some videos of the "good ones" and post them up. Like the fairly recent incident of the off duty local officer that spotted a house on fire a saved the occupants.

Good cops doing their jobs is not newsworthy. Sensationalism sells...

There was a post up here the other day where it showed a cop treating a OC'er professionally and respectfully. The OC'er was more rude than the cop.

And I see stories all the time about LE doing good and wonderful stuff. In fact most of the time I see good stories about cops doing good things.

They are out there but its just the bad ones that everyone remembers.

I've never had an experience with an officer even remotely close to the one in the video. Most of the officers out there are pretty even keeled and would have let the driver in the video finish what he was saying when it started with "I have ...". It seems the officer in question was already stressed out and hyped up about something before they rolled up on the scene, and he seemed to be looking for a confrontation - too bad as that is what the general public remembers. Who knows, maybe he was in another situation earlier in the evening that got out of control and that situation was affecting how he handled this one. None of us know the whole story or what lead up to his behavior in this incident, but I would think (hope) that for him to be a 14 year veteran, he couldn't have too many situations like this in his record.

Unfortunately too true. The other reason that there are not as many videos of the "good ones" is that they are the ones that don't want recognition for doing whatever they have done. If you watch the news stories where an officer has done something that we (the public) feel is out of the norm or going above the call of duty, they almost always try to play it off as they were "just doing their job" or "I did nothing that anyone else wouldn't have done". It would be great if there were more positive stories out there about officers, but that is not what boosts ratings or catches the public eye.

I would like to say one more thing (something that should be said more often) to all of the police officers, fire fighters, and military personnel out there -

    THANK YOU!!!
