    Default Changing Barrels

I just traded for a Smith & Wesson Model 629-4 44 Mag. It came with a 4 inch and an extra 3 inch barrel. The 3 inch is brand new and never been installed. How hard is it to change the barrels? Do you need special tools. Is it something a gunsmith should do? Thanks!

Man I thought he just wanted to sell the barrel I wish I would have got to that one. I believe there is a barrel tool you will have to get for S&W

Changing the barrel isnt hard and does not take long.

The trick is making sure you still have a good cylinder/barrel gap. If you dont have enough clearance, it will need to be faced off.

Pretty basic stuff for a pistolsmith that touches revos once in a while.
