Default Where in Pawnee Grasslands for 1000+ yard shooting?

So I'm embarking on the process of training myself to shoot out to 1000 or so yards. Should in entertaining as most of my rifle training has been under 100 yards. I know where all the typical spots are in Pawnee but I would rather be away from others and in a more open area besides to little valley that everyone shoots in and then leaves their trash around.

Can anyone PM me GPS coordinates to where I can get this type of range without having to kill myself to get my steel targets out that far?

    Thanks!

here lies your problem. you cant drive off marked roads in the Pawnee. So, once you find your 1000 yards spot, you will more than likely be humping your targets out to 1000. Me and many other people have to do it just this way. Carrying steel out to 1000 makes you want to take up pistol shooting.
There are 192,000 acres in the Pawnee, there a millions of places to shoot to or past 1000 yards. Stop at the O street visitors center, buy a map, drive around a little and find a spot that works for you. The further you go, the less people who will be in your way or endangering you.

+1 on that. I went up there to shoot one day map in hand and ended up exploring for about 5 hours instead, really neat country out there. Oh, and its usually gale force out there, so have fun trying to shoot 1k with that haha.

We drove around some in the West section of the Grasslands and saw all kind of places with appropriate range and back stop. I just got a creepy feeling that I was going to get a beat down by a ranger if I jumped a barbed wire fence to set up my gear. Yes, humping my 1/2 thick AR500 2/3 scale USPSA targets out 1000 yards will be a bitch. We got them out to 310 yesterday and that was a bitch in itself. I'll be getting one of those off-road wagons they have at Costco for this task so we don't have to make multiple trips for all the targets.

Anyone know where the photos were taken from Zak's site?

I'm sure he's scouted out the best places...

Should I be looking around in the Western section or the Eastern section. I've never even been over to the East side. Only seen it on Google Maps.

ok, i will tell you where to shoot 1000+ yards.

go out to the Pawnee the way you usually do.

Turn left on County Road 61, go north to county road 96, turn right, go east 1 mile to county road 63, turn left. go north about 1/4 mile. you will have to go through a gate. open it and then close it. unless its open allready. once you come to the top of the hill...stop. look east. Park on the edge of the road, no further off the road. its against the law to drive off road.

When I used to shoot on public land, I would shoot here. Remember you must be 50 feet off the road to legally shoot. Personally I walk 100 feet or so to the edge (you will see what I mean if you go there). set up your gear, and then hump your targets out.

if you buy the cart, fill the tires with slime. lots of cactus. also I might ask the Park Service if it was ok to wheel a cart across the Grasslands.

you can also get here by turning left on county road 57, go north to county road 96. turn right and go east 3 miles to county road 63. either way its close and wide open.

I believe that area is all marked so you know it's closed. It's on the South side of where Leatherneck suggested so we should be good for his spot.
