Default Cleaning frequency on barrel and whatnot.

I know with a chrome lined barrel you don't have to clean as much but what is the frequency? Reading all the stuff online and the gun manual I still do not have a clear picture yet of how often I should clean the barrel, receiver, bolt carrier, ect.

I'd clean after every trip to the range....

... that being said, I only clean my 3gun stuff every other trip or every third.

at least get a bore snake and run that through before putting 'em away.

Your 3gun stuff? I don't remember where I read it but I thought you were supposed to avoid excessive cleaning on the AR-15.

If its running, dont clean it. If it looks dirty inside, clean it.

What do you guys think of those bore snakes? Are they supposed to be a replacement for a regular cleaning kit or a supplement?

AR's (and most gas based weapons I would guess): every 1000-2000 rnds or significant loading/F2F issues
Pistols: 500-5000 .. just depends on the gun
AK's (and most piston type weapons I would guess): When it stops feeding.. eh, call it 5000 rnds
    Bolt Guns: About every 500rnds

Most of us who have been in the military have the awful habbit of cleaning them every time we shoot em'. Not needed, not exactly harmful, but it just isn't as important. Now, if you're going to be chasing Hadji in sand, sleet and other inclimate weather, that's a different story.

As always, if you get em' wet, it's wise to wipe the water out..
