    Default Carbine rail system

I have been battling pretty hard on which rails to put on my new build. I am really leaning towards the DD 7.0 lite rail. But I have never used them and there are so many rail systems out there. I would hate to get one and then decide later on I like a different one better(has happened a few times already). Just for some more SA the gun is going to have a ACOG and standard FSB on it. What are some other highly regarded rails?

Since your upper has the fronts sight tower installed, the first question is do you have the tools to remove it? Depending on your upper and sight tower some of those sights can be a royal pain to remove. Most rails require the tower to be removed for the rail installation. The DD is one of few that don't if I recall correctly.

The DD Lite does require front sight removal. The Omega doesn't. But...the Omega X does.

I don't like the short handguards/rails at all. I t doesn't take much extra effort to cut down & shape the (former) front sight into a low profile gas block. Slap on a longer rail & have a smith install a standard front sight on the barrel ahead of the rail or add a rail mounted front sight & you're good to go. I've set up a few different guns with the long rail/shaved block & everybody who has shot them loves the setup.

    Just an idea.

Take a look at the new Midwest Industries drop-in carbine handguard.

Surefire M73 drop in rails lock in tighter than normal because they you some set screws to push the upper and lower segments against the cups. Generally can be found for under $90 used and are extremely light (when compared to ANYTHING by MI).

Why do you feel you need a full rail array? Is there a reason something like the MagPul MOE handguards wouldn't do the job? You can place rail segments where you need them and not have to deal with the rest of the forend being railtastic. Or is this just a cosmetic thing?

I dont like the Magpul setup. I like metal and ended up going with some DD rails.

I had a quad rail on my rifle for years and loved it. That was until i put the JP hand guard on. It is like 1/6th the weight of a quad rail. and 100 times more comfortable. i have not looked back since.

I have the VLTOR CAS-V on my carbine and love it... It's lightweight and you don't have to remove the FSB.
However, I did remove mine and replaced with a low profile block and went with the Mid-Length rail.

I had one of these. Very nice for a drop-in unit. Fit tight with no movement on my rifle. And for $125 brand new it is hard to beat for the money.
