New to Durango.

Is that the one on like the northwest end of town? I have a few buddies that live up there. I used to live down across the river from Serious Texas.

We have a weird winter cycle here. We get hit really hard one winter, then the next one is just a bit wet, then the next one is more like fall, and then we get hit hard again. We're due for a big one this time, and Durango is usually hit hard even when the Denver area isn't.
Get something with 4 wheel drive, a small lift kit, and some good tires. My F250 6" lift and 37's could hardly tell there was a foot + of snow on the ground, but a truck or jeep with 35's or even 33's will get you by just fine. The biggest thing is learning how to drive in the wet stuff.

I have a 97 GMC Dually, 4wd, so some sand bags and chains and I should be good. Gonna replace the block heater since its gone TU.

There are 2 serious texas bbq's one on the north side and one on the south side. Yummy.

Hopefully the roads will be plowed so I can get to the bbq and to the airport.

The south STB is better IMO, its the original one.
Definitely get a new block heater in there and keep some starting fluid nearby just in case. It can get pretty cold.

Diesel. I need to rig a override for the glow plugs, but we'll see how it does with just the block heater. Last winter I was in Houston, we had some 18 degree overnights, it started, it wasnt happy, but it started. That was without a working block heater.

Welcome to the site. Durango has a lot of good stuff going for it, but it's quickly turning into a liberal haven with their anti-gun, etc. attitudes.

Yup, already been there. I moved here from Texas, I miss Rudy's, but Serious Texas BBQ is a excellent replacement.

I'm down at the Durango Year Round RV Park. I moved here to fly a King Air for Flight for Life Colorado.

Stoked to be here for sure, but I will admit, winter has me spooked.

Let's see - BBQ. While I don't think it's as good as back home (I'm from KC MO), we have a Rudy's here in the Springs (yes, part of the same chain, not a knock-off). It's the best BBQ we have in the Springs these days. If you ever find yourself on this side of the state you'll have to stop in and satisfy your cravings.

Now, winter... Definitely get some sort of a 4WD vehicle - safety first, but it could be the difference of you being able to get in to work to fly that Flight For Life and NOT being able to make it to work. (BTW: Flight For Life - very cool and noble career!) No matter what you are driving, find an large & open (no other vehicles nearby) parking lot and practice driving/stopping once the snow does start falling. Now, don't go pulling doughnuts and acting nuts and the local LEO's shouldn't give you a hard time.

I was born in Oregon, got lots of experience driving in the snow. for fun we would go find parking lots and drive stupid, ha! them were the days. can anyone recommend some open area where I can go sight in my 243 and ar? I haven't be able to get off to go hook up with the range here. besides, I don't like crowds.
