We have a weird winter cycle here. We get hit really hard one winter, then the next one is just a bit wet, then the next one is more like fall, and then we get hit hard again. We're due for a big one this time, and Durango is usually hit hard even when the Denver area isn't.
Get something with 4 wheel drive, a small lift kit, and some good tires. My F250 6" lift and 37's could hardly tell there was a foot + of snow on the ground, but a truck or jeep with 35's or even 33's will get you by just fine. The biggest thing is learning how to drive in the wet stuff.
I have a 97 GMC Dually, 4wd, so some sand bags and chains and I should be good. Gonna replace the block heater since its gone TU.

There are 2 serious texas bbq's one on the north side and one on the south side. Yummy.

Hopefully the roads will be plowed so I can get to the bbq and to the airport.
