I remember many moons ago when I was a LT there was a huge uproar when the nudie magazines were removed from the shelves of the PX. Back then, you could get Playboy, Penthouse, etc. at your local exchange. So now they are selling gay magazines, big deal.

I personally don't care what magazines they sell. Homosexuals have been in the Army / military and now they can serve without having to lie or seal their identity. Who cares? Not me.

For those serving and who have a problem with this, then get out. Seriously, get out. No one is begging your to serve. Hell, we are under a force reduction so this is the perfect opportunity to stand your ground and go into the civilian job market. For those who aren't in the military but have a problem with it, thanks but it really doesn't matter what you think.

There was a time when the population was in an uproar when blacks/African-Americans were allowed to serve in open ranks. The same thing happened when women were allowed to serve in greater rolls as well. This too will pass and the military will continue to carry on.

Touche! We had a kid who tried hand and foot to get out during AIT, he was gay, and when he went to the CDR she (yes, that's right, we had a female CDR in AIT and she was HOT! ya know, for an officer lol) told him "Don't tell me, you have to be caught in the act." So he went AWOL for a day came back during our evening formation with a civilian boy and they started making out right in front of everyone. Needless to say his chapter paperwork began a few moments later and he was gone in a week. Didn't much matter to me. He was nice to me, never made any unwanted advances at me, so it didn't affect me. I have a couple friends who are combat fairies (not my term, they use it on themselves), and have no issues with them, in fact they serve just as proudly as everyone else.

The issue I have is the leagues of closed minded individuals, such as the Army Times poll that showed over 65% of those polled would not re-enlist if DADT were repealed. Shows that they just don't understand there are already gays serving, and it hasn't been detrimental to unit cohesion or moral thus far, so why should it change if they are serving openly? Seeing as how our unit had a pair of females attracted to each other, caught in the act during a field exercise, and really nothing happened! And they were NCO's to boot... really the only black mark for them was a command directive to stay away from each other while on duty and one was moved to a different company. No skin off my back either way.

My thought pattern on this was people being "openly gay" in a professional environment. I don't go around spouting how strait I am and I don't expect someone to go rub their preference in my face. I worked and knew people in my unit that were gay, but they kept it professional. I Didnt get out due to this, but I can see where if it got to the point that people were using it as leverage I would probably not reenlist either. Already have plenty of people in the military using race and sex as leverage now you got this too. Also don't get me wrong not everyone uses the race card or "i cant do that im a woman", but it is rather irritating that when your treated as an equal you try to use personal attributes to your advantage.

A gay magazine? Oh the horror!

I don't give a shit either way. The only thing that matters in the military is if he/she is a good Soldier.

DADT is a purely political thing and has nothing to do with the operational effectiveness of our military.

Excuse the pun, but if you can save my ass under fire, then I want you watching my ass when it's on the line.

I have to throw in the obligatory misunderstanding...
Gay magazine? What so every time you load a round it goes "Ugh!" and then whenever it is minus a round it says "ahh"?
