Seems like the only time I get the flu is when I get a shot.

Infiltration update: yesterday I was down for the count. Could barely make it to the john to take care of business. The wife was wonderful, took great care of me, even the kids didn't go crazy and allowed me a day off. Best thing is that they were totally understanding as yesterday was supposed to be our Free Elitch Day (yeah, they comped me family tickets because of the situation regarding the gang bangers smokers) Guess we'll try for next week.

Today I feel much better, I can actually walk around, we'll see how long that lasts.

I've never had a flu shot and I can count on one hand the amount of times I've been sick (usually when I was younger) and it drives my wife nuts that I don't get sick. She, on the other hand, is sick at least once a year and comes from a family that gets their flu shots regularly. Their whole family is always sick too. I have no proof or facts to support this statement but I feel like those who get shots tend to be the most sick. My non-scientific observation is that those who don't get them tend to also get the least sick while those who do, do. I can't help but wonder what good they are. It could be that those same people have very weak immune systems and w/o the shot would be perpetually sick but I doubt that's the case. If it works for you and your family that's great but I'm a skeptic and have lots of good health to back me up.

Also, my good friend happens to be a biochemist who worked at CDC and conversations about this very topic with him are what help to back up my own personal stance. At best the flu shot is a guess (in order to meet production they take a guess at which strain they think will be the one that hits this season) and most of the time they aren't the proper strain.

I hope your family gets well soon but don't kick yourself because you didn't get your shot and think you could have prevented it that easily. People get sick and that's a fact of life. There is no magic shot you can get that makes it all go away.
