I removed the thumb safety from my M&P, only took a few minutes. You only have to knock out one roll pin; the armorer's tool in the grip of the pistol works perfect for this.

If you email S&W and ask them for the little plugs to fill in the holes that are left when you remove the safety, they will mail them to you for free.

Can you still do this? Can you do this with the Shield as well?

The M&P hasn't changed. It's still easy to remove the safety. I followed a video on YouTube and it was super easy. The Shield has a different safety though; I don't know if it's possible to remove it.

Awesome! Thanks guys. I think I'm getting convinced to give the M&Pc a chance.

Since you want a small gun, go ahead and look at the Shield.

Yeah, I've been thinking about adding the 9c or a shield to the rotation as well. I haven't had a chance to try the shield yet but I've heard that it has a better trigger than the 9c (or 40c). This is all the shooters personal preference of course. Anyone want weigh in on this? I have also heard that S&W might be putting the shield style trigger set up on the new M&P's and, as previously stated, the extra capacity and mag options of the 9c are a nice feature over the shield. Really want top give the M&P a shot (9c or 9 shield) so any advice/input on the pros/cons would be much appreciated. Is there much of a difference between the shield and compact besides the width?

I just handled a Shield for the first time this evening. BluCore had just got one in before I left. The trigger is better than the M&P IMO. The Shield has a shorter take-up and smoother than the gritty M&P. Can't tell if the reset is any better.

I would choose a Shield for carry, but I already have a 4.25" and 5" fun gun in 9mm.

I absolutely love the Shield! Have 575 flawless rounds thru mine. It shoots better than I do and the recoil seems (to me, at least) to be comparable to a 9c that I rented. Have on order a Garrett Industries Silent thunder STX OWB holster in Coyote Brown; already have a K2 dual magazine carrier for it. Plan to get a full size later this year; hopefully by then they will have the Shield trigger shipping in the other M&P models. I put the rubberized Talon grips on it, and it feels fantastic.

Do you carry it with the safety disengaged? Or safety on? My sister just got a M&P40 Shield, and she LOVES it. When I first heard about them coming out, I suggested she go take a look at them and she absolutely fell in love.

The Shields are super nice. I do really like them. I suppose that 8 shots is still good, but I think I could still conceal a 9c or 40c pretty easily. I kind of like the idea of having an extra 4 rounds per mag + 1 in the chamber. Haven't fully decided yet.
